Welcome Back to School

Dear Parents and Guardians of Gabbs Students,

We are excited to start the 2023-24 school year and want to share some of the changes with you so that you know what to expect. The first big announcement is that we have added two new teachers to our staff! The Secondary students (6-12) now have a live, in the building, Science and Math teacher, Mr. James Young. They will also have myself, Ms. Debra Harris here as the on-site administrator and live English and Social Studies teacher. We are both looking forward to meeting you all in person when we get our back-to-school night organized.

Other important changes to be aware of:

  • Our school will begin classes promptly at 7:50 a.m. each day with live teachers, please make the necessary arrangements to have your student here on time each day.
  • Student drop off will not be supervised until 7:45, please drop off all students at the Cafeteria entrance, all other entrances will remain locked throughout the day.
  • New main entrance for visitors, deliveries, & late arrivals is the old back door entrance to the office. This is the only door you will be able to enter the school from.
  • Starting this year, all Secondary (6-12 grade) P.E. classes will be expected to change into PE clothes that we are supplying. They will be required to shower each day after PE. Towels and soap will be provided.
  • All students, K-12 will need an extra pair of tennis shoes for PE class to be used only for PE on the gym floors. Please provide your students with the shoes, if you need assistance please speak with myself or Mrs. Green.
  • Nye County Schools has a closed campus policy. This means no one is allowed to leave campus for any reason, at any time during the school day, unless a parent or guardian arrives to pick them up. Specifically, no one leaves school for lunch.
  • Students will not have possession of any phones, earbuds etc. that they bring to school during class time. They will be held until lunch, and returned to the school after lunch until end of day.
  • If at all possible, please call to schedule any meetings you need with teachers or myself in advance. All of us are in classes teaching students and cannot take a meeting during class.

One last area of concern, please do not go to the homes of our staff to address school concerns. These should all be addressed here at the school during our work day. Staff is here from 7:00 -4:00 Mon-Thurs.

Finally, we are working on some community nights that we hope you will all attend. We are trying to put together a Bingo night, Movie night, and Open Gym nights. We have lots of exciting ideas and hope you will all jump onboard and support Gabbs Tarantulas as we attempt to branch out into our community more.

Thank you for all of your support as we move forward with a new vision for Gabbs Schools.
